A range hood as I understand it, typically consists of a small fan and a light. Check the ratings on the device you're installing, but if it uses less than 15 amps (and I'll bet it uses much less than 15 amps) you should be okay to use 12/2 + ground (12 gauge/2 insulated conductors/1 bare ground conductor). Protect the circuit with a breaker rated no higher than 15 amps.
If this hood is some sort of freak of nature and requires between 15 and 20 amps then use a 10/2 + ground and 20 amp breaker.
Range hoods usually come with a cord with a plug on the end, so you simply install a regular electrical outlet in the cupboard. If the hood is hardwired, then a junction box would be used.

It is not necessary to install a range hood simply because you have a natural gas range. Range hoods simply remove odors, heat and moisture from the home. There is not enough natural gas put out from a range to require a separate filtration unit.
It depends on the style of range hood you select. Some models use a 75 watt light bulb.
A stove or stove range would use a copper range hood. These hoods are not only a beautiful kitchen accent, but are also useful in ventilation while cooking.

To get the proper size of the range hood, one should take the measurement of your island to the Home Depot store, they will tell you what size of the range hood would be.
Make sure that you are sure which type of range hood you need before purchasing and installing one. If you are going to be replacing a recirculation hood with a venting hood, there are extra steps involved in the installation, because you need ductwork that vents to the outside of your home or business. Now that you’ve purchased the right type of hood and have gathered all of your tools, let’s get started. This article is going to focus on replacing a range hood, as opposed to installing a range hood above your stove for the first time. As always, be sure to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or user manual that came with the new range hood. First, turn off the power at the electrical panel, then remove the existing range hood by unscrewing all the attached points. To protect your stove while you’re installing the new range hood, you might want to cover it with the cardboard from range hood’s box. Remove the metal electrical cover to expose the wiring. Remove the knock- out plate on the new hood that is for the electrical wires to pass through. Thread the wire-tensioner through the hole backwards, so that the range hood will fit flush against the wall. Remove the cover plate, and affix the duct adapter to the back of the new hood (assuming the range hood has an outside duct). At this point, you will slide the wire through the tensioner, but don’t tighten it until you place the new range hood into place, as you slide the duct adapter into the exhaust duct. Now, tighten the wires and screws as you position the new range hood into place, making sure that the mounting ledge is flush with the cabinets. Finally, connect the power cable from the range hood to the power source, tighten any remaining screws, and replace the junction box cover. The final, small steps are simply to insert the filter and light bulb and their covers, and turn the power back on. Before you call it a day, test the operation of the fan, light and vent, if applicable.
Most hoods are standardized. For a normal stove, any non-industrial hood should be fine.
a diagram should be located on the fan shroud or on a sticker under the hood.
The average size of a canopy range hood is 30 in by 36 in. The best thing is to get the hood that is compatible with the range that is being purchased.
