The following are jobs that are in high demand in Japan especially for foreign nationals:

1. Information Technology

Be it a web developer or a programmer, IT professionals are on high demand in Japan. As the second most common job that foreigners take in Japan, many Japanese companies hire talent from abroad. The best part is, speaking or writing in Japanese is not a priority for this field in many companies.

2. Engineering

As most companies in Japan are not willing to offshore, they hire engineers from abroad to work for their company in their land. From locomotives to electronics, there are many engineering jobs in Japan for foreigners.

3. English Teacher

The most common work for foreigners in Japan is teaching English. The number of Japanese nationals speaking English is lesser than half of the population. So, the demand for English teachers is quite high in Japan. Indians without teaching experience or credentials can teach in public schools under the Japanese government’s JET program.

4. Sales

Many Japanese companies, especially those with global reach trying to access international markets, usually hire foreign nationals to fill various roles in the sales department, such as international sales managers and sales representatives.

5. Service Industry

With proper knowledge of the Japanese language and a valid visa, there are many job vacancies for Indians in the service industry such as tourism or hotel management. The hotel industry in Japan is always looking for foreigners who can speak more than one language to accommodate their guests.

6. Banking

Many investment banks in Japan usually hire foreign bankers in a large number. Although it’s not an easy job to get, as long as you have the right qualifications and a valid visa, speaking the Japanese language is not a priority in this field.

7. General Office Work

White-collar jobs are easy to find in Japan as long as you speak Japanese and have a valid passport. In fact, many Indians who have moved to Japan to work as an English teacher have found jobs in many offices.

8. Small Business

Owning your own business will not be easy without the proper connection or network in the country. But, according to a study in May 2016, there were 26, 244 Indians living in Japan (Japan's Ministry of Immigration), out of which 20-30% of them work in or manage Indian restaurants. The reason behind the success of these restaurants is because Indian Food is quite popular in Japan.

9. Translator

Translating one language to another – English to Japanese, Japanese to English, or Japanese to other languages and vice versa – is a good job opportunity for foreign nationals, especially in the gaming industry. One can even freelance as a translator, provided he has the skill and valid documentation.

10. Foreign Expertise (For Japanese company expanding globally)

Some Japanese companies, who are pushing to expand globally, usually opt to hire talents from abroad. In many offices of Japanese companies, they have even implemented an English-only policy.
