If you are speaking of real tea, meaning it came from the camilla sinensis plant, there will always be some level of caffeine in the tea. Even in tea marked as decaffinated, a very low level of caffeine will still exist.

However, many people commonly make the mistake of calling an herbal tisane, herbal tea. The truth is that there is no such thing as a "herbal tea" because in order to be classified as "tea" the beverage must be brewed from the leaves of camilla sinensis, which an "herbal tea" lacks.

The point being that any "tea" containing camilla sinensis will contain caffeine. But if you purchase an herbal tisane or "herbal tea" as so many incorrectly call it. It will not contain caffeine.

A lot of tea's such as infusions have no caffeine at all. Such as Lemongrass and Ginger. Green tea and Red/Black tea's however do contain caffeine although I am unable to specify how much. Just a tea/coffee lover, not a doctor :)

All tea has some caffeine, so if you are allergic to caffeine stay away completely and head to the herbals (herbal teas, or tisanes, have no caffeine). White tea, the least processed tea, has a tiny amount of caffeine that even the most caffeine sensitive person won't notice or ever be bothered by (unless you are allergic ... in which case just stick with the herbals)

If the herb you are using to make the tea is caffeine free, then so is the tea. Check the constituents of the herb for caffeine. Just a quick list: chamomile, lavender, ginger, lemon balm, mint, and rose-hip.

Every type of true tea - that is, tea made by steeping the leaves of Camellia Sinensis - contains caffeine. This includes black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong tea and pu-erh tea. De-caffeinated teas contain less tea but generally still have a small amount of caffeine.

Tisanes are caffeine-free alternatives to regular tea. Tisanes are teas made by brewing herbs, fruits or spices. Some of the most common include peppermint tea, rooibos tea, dandelion tea, chamomile tea and lemongrass tea.

White tea, green tea, oolong tea and black tea all are the products of camellia sinensis plant. Therefore all of these contains caffeine. From all the above mentioned teas black tea contains more caffeine compared to others. Where black tea contains 60-90 mg of caffeine per cup. Where other types of the tea would be below 50 mg. Basically i prefer to buy green tea due to its high healthy benefits.
