The main reason that the colonists resented the acts imposed on them by Parliament is that they had no say in the creation of those acts. This is the issue of taxation without representation that you learn about in American history in school.
Even though saying BAD things is legal; doesn't make it right! Anti-War protests are legal; but that doesn't make it right. If people are "protesting" a conflict occurring away from their own country and that conflict is not involving their own people (troops); then those protests will probably not mentally damage anybody. It'll simply be an example of "freedom of expression." If people are "protesting" a conflict involving THEIR OWN country and THEIR OWN people; then those protests could mentally damage THEIR OWN people. Again, (non-violent) Anti-War protests are legal; but that doesn't make it right. During the US Civil War and the Vietnam War, anti-war protesters (read anti-draft protesters) GOT OUT OF HAND! Many were shot to death by US Troops (draft riots) during both wars. Anti-War protesters had crossed the line!
