There are too many. Like Ghana alone has over 60 languages.

Technically there are languages in West Africa, but there are so many it is hard to comprehend, and there is no main language there. The abundance of language comes from the abundance of different tribes in Africa before Colonialism came to them. They all had their own languages, which caused difficulty in communication, which may have led to many feuds between tribes. Naturally, now there are countries occupying the territory of many tribes, and so a primary language must be selected. They typically keep the language of the countries that colonized them. Not one country colonized the entire West Africa, though, so there's no main language for that entire region.
