a ram 1500 body is the same whether you have the 6 cyl, or 8 cyl. same engine compartment. i would say that you could put just about any v-8 in that you wanted. if you are looking to performance upgrade, the best engine is a big block. there is no replacement for displacement, or if you go the small block route, put in a stroker motor you can generate alot of hp this way. small blocks can make upwards of 500 hp plus with the right and matched parts.
A 316 motor is not a direct swap with a 360 in a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. Both engines are very similar but have different connectors and mounts.
