Acquired characteristics lead to evolution?

what evolution as a result of acquired characteristics

What theory of evolution did lamarck develop in 1809?

Jean Lamarck's theory of evolution is known as zoological philosophy or the inheritance of acquired characteristics, and stated that changes to an organisms phenotype (basically what it looks like) will cause changes to it's genotype (DNA). This has been disproved of by modern scientists, with natural selection as the main theory.

What are traits that are gained during an organism's life and not determined genetically?

Acquired Traits/Characteristics

What was lamarcks theory of evolution ultimately discredible?

Essentially, there was no mechanism for it to work - Larmarc's theory was that characteristics gained during a species life were passed to offspring; his example was the giraffe - stretching it's neck to reach high leaves made it's neck longer and this long neck was passed to it's offspring. This was simply wrong; if someone has an injury, their offspring isn't born with that injury- the genes aren't affected by such lifetime experiences. However, modern research in genetics has shown that some experiences can cause chemical changes in the body which, in turn, can affect the genes so that the offspring is affected. So, to a small extent Lamarc had it right.

Why are only inherited traits not acquired ones involed in the process of natural selection?

Because the idea of acquired traits states that simple organisms could arise from nonliving matter and could form complex forms of living, which is not supported anymore by modern scientific study of mechanisms of inheritance.

Was lamarcks idea of acquired traits proven or rejected?

rejected.

Which of lamarcks ideas was later found to be incorrect?

The idea of acquired characteristics. For instance. The idea that a blacksmith, who would develop enormous muscles due to his trade, could pass these physical attributes on to his children.

What are the differences between Darwin's and lamarcks theory of evolution?

Larmark's theory was based on the idea that organisms inherited characteristics that they had acquired in life - so, if you have a scar your offspring will have scars. Darwin's theory assumed that offspring inherited characteristics from their parents, but they were more likely to survive to breed if there was advantage to those characteristics.

Acquired characteristics lead to evolution?

what evolution as a result of acquired characteristics

How can you use the concept of genetic inheritance to disprove Lamark's idea of the inheritance of acquired characteristics?

Lamarck's theory is disproved through many different examples of acquired characteristics. Anything that happens to a parent would be passed on to the offspring. Acoording to Lamarck, a parent that has tattoos would pass on the tattoos to the offspring. Loss of limb, injuries, cosmetic surgery or anything that changed in the parents would manifest in the offspring. This is not the case. Acquired characteristics are not passed on to offspring unless they change the gene sequence of the sex cells. Parents do not give physical characteristics to offspring, but do give the coding for those characteristics. The gene passes on the trait.

Does acquired characteristics lead to evolution?

No, acquired characteristics, such as building muscles through exercise, can not be passed onto the progeny and thus allele can not change over time in populations from acquired characteristics. The are not " hard " heritability.

What are Lamarcks's contributions to evolution?

Two pertinent ideas of Lamarck were the idea of acquired characteristics and the concept of use and disuse. Acquired characteristics posited that some experience that an organisms went through in life, such as muscle building due to hard work, would be heritable. Use and disuse posited that certain organs and traits could develop through use, such as the giraffe trying to eat the leaves on the heights of trees, or that organs or traits could be lost through disuse.

What are inherited trait that are passed down by your parents are?

Characteristics passed on from your parents to you are called inherited characteristics. Those which were not inherited are called acquired characteristics. Those are the two possibilities. Characteristics can be either inherited or acquired.

What means lamarckism?

Lamarck give the idea that an organism can pass on their characteristics that it have acquired during its lifetime to its offspring. Also known as heritability of acquired characteristics.

Why do you now know that inheritance of acquired characteristics is not valid?

Experiments have been done to verify inheritance of acquired characteristics, and results unanimously show that it is false.

What is an example of traits that you would expect to inherit if Lamarck's explanation of evolution were correct?

if I were to inherit traits based on Lamarcks explanation of evolution were correct we wouldn't be the people we are now. Lamarcks´ explanation was that acquired characteristics were genetically passed to the offspring so if that were so, the human brains would be much more developed, more knowledge, and bigger parts of the body. This question is also tricky since a human would turn out to be a giant by the time they got to the 100th offspring

Why doesn't evolution occur through the inheritance of acquired characteristics?

Because acquired characteristics are not programmed in the DNA; only characterisitics which are genetically programmed are passed on and inherited.
