Probably 48" is as small as you would want to consider.

A great deal of this answer will depend on what obstacles you have on your property. If you don't have many obstacles and are over an acre I would get at least a 42" mower. If you are under an acre a 38" will probably work fine and take up less garage space.

Tractor 1 mows 25/4 acres per hour, tractor 2 mows 25/5 acres per hour, ie between them they can mow 6¼ + 5, 11¼ acres per hour so 25 acres will take 25/11¼ ie 2 and 7/9 hours.
