they simply moved from the cities to the countryside.

historians do not know why but some factors are:

  • lack of food
  • damaging war
  • cities may have disrupted trade
  • the common people over ruled the king and rebelled
  • droughts

however, it is still unknown the actual reason.

the mayan civilization didn't disappear entirely and was later found in Yucatan Peninsula

No one knows what happened to them, they just suddenly abandoned many of their cities. There are many theories, such as warfare, but nothing has been proven.
