Hieroglyphs do not include any sign representing an eagle (this is a common error on many poorly-researched and misleading websites).
There is a sign representing the Egyptian vulture, which stands for the consonant sound 3, or aleph, a glottal stop which is sometimes written as a in translations but it does not represent the English vowel a. The aleph sound also occurs frequently in Hebrew and Arabic.
A very similar sign represents a buzzard which has the sound-value tw (particularly at the end of words).
Another similar sign has the addition of a single feather projecting from the bird's chest; the sign represents the guinea fowl and has the sound value nH.
Egyptian hieroglyphics did not have symbols for vowels. There are several websites that let you type your name in hieroglyphics, and they include vowels, but they just use the hieroglyph for Y as most of the vowels.
From what I understand, they are very different - the Egyptian hieroglyphics were actual pictures that represented emotion, or a physical thing. An eagle represented the bird, but also flying. In Egyptian hieroglypincs, there is no letter A like we use it. There were two gutteral sounds that would be a starting point for an "a" sound (or any other vowel besides "o" or "u"). These were: The vulture symbol, which makes a glottal stop similar to the aleph in Hebrew. The forearm symbol, which makes a gutteral sound (like you're about to vomit), similar to the ayin in Hebrew.
