The "Northern Lights" (or Aurora Borealis) are seen near the North Pole.
The "Southern Lights" (or Aurora Australis) are seen near the South Pole.

It increases the number of particles reaching the Earth's upper atmosphere. Normally, Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field block these particles. However, near the North and South poles, the particles can enter Earth's atmosphere, where they create powerful electric currents that cause gas and molecules in the atmosphere to glow. The result is rippling sheets of light in the sky called auroras.1 word for it would be?the aurora borealis
Protect the Earth. A car's gas burns part of the atmosphere. If the atmosphere disolves or goes away, then the sun could damage the Earth or the north and south poles could change. Then compasses and electric stuff would not work. The atmosphere is very important to Earth.
Sunlight strikes the equator directly, and over a shorter distance through the earth's atmosphere, so retains more heat. At the poles, the sunlight strikes at an angle, and the light travels further through the atmosphere, so being much cooler.
Due to the tilt of the Earth. The North pole is pointing at the sun and is light or, as the Earth rotates around the sun and the South pole is pointing at sun, then the North pole is dark.

They happen near the Earth's magnetic poles, in the north and in the south. There is a gas cloud that is expelled from the sun, which takes about 3days to reach earth. This cloud collides with Earth's magnetic field(north&south pole) which causes a chain reaction of energy among the particles in the gas cloud. The energy charges these particles, creating light shows.

I think you are talking about the aurora - there are different ones around the north pole and around the south pole.

what can happen if car driving north on green going straightwhile other car making left claim that he had the green light to turn left and collides
the north star. it takes 8 minutes for light to get from the sun to the earth. it takes half a billion years for light to get to us from the north star...i think. but i know that the sun is definetly closer.
The Earth's magnetic field is called the Magnetosphere. Loops of magnetic energy coupling the north and south pole that trap energetic subatomic particles are called the Van Allen belt.
