There are actually two lines that divide the earth into the eastern and the western Hemispheres. The International Date Line jogs around Alaska's Aleutian Islands and then pretty much divides the Pacific Ocean in half. Through much of its length it is on the 180 degree longitude line. The other line is the 0 degree longitude line which is a north/south running line from the Greenwich Observatory in England, called the Prime Meridian. While this does mean that parts of England, all of Ireland, and parts of Africa are "Western Hemisphere", it is usual to put these places in the Eastern Hemisphere.
The Prime Meridian at 0 degrees longitude separates the Earth into the eastern and western hemispheres. Points to the east of the Prime Meridian are in the eastern hemisphere, while points to the west are in the western hemisphere.

It depends. The equator divides the Earth into the northern and southern hemispheres, but the Prime Meridiandivides it into the western and eastern hemispheres.
The earth is divided into eastern and western hemisphere's by the Prime Meridian (zero longitude) which runs from pole to pole and passes through the Greenwich Observatory, London, England.
Alaska is in both the Western hemisphere and Easter hemisphere. Alaska's Aleutian Islands stretch across the 180º line of Longitude, which divides the Earth into Eastern and Western hemispheres. BarDev
