It was in the 1800's. I learned about it 2 or 1 month ago. They bought it after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark discovered the Oregon Country. It included Idaho, Oregon[of course], Part of Montana, and Washington. -In 1819, Oregon was claimed by four nations-Russia, Spain, Great Britain and the United States. Spain was first to drop out of the claim, then Russia agreed to limit it's claim to the 54 degree 40' parallel of latitude, which is today's southern border of Alaska. In 1825, Britain and the United States agreed to a peaceful "joint occupation" of Oregon. In 1846, after a change in government, the United States made a treaty with Great Britain. They agreed to split Oregon Country in half, on the 49th parallel, which is now the northern border of Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
When you specify a set of coordinates, consisting of a latitude and a longitude, you've nailed the location down to a single point on the Earth. Unless the point is exactly on the border between two states, it's not possible for it to be in more than one of them. In this case, if the point is in any state at all, then it's only by virtue of Australia's claim to its territorial waters. The point 43°S/148°E is located about 1.6 miles off the southeast coast of Tasmania, in the water. It's about 4.1 miles east-northeast of the junction of Arthur Highway and Blowhole Road in Eaglehawk Neck.
You really have to contort your extremities into some very uncomfortable and unnatural positions to support the claim that any parallels of latitude ever mark the boundaries of the light and dark regions of Earth. You're fishing for the Arctic and Antarctic Circles, but the concept is far-fetched.

Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentia, population 29, 450, is the southernmost town in the world. (There are no towns, by definition, on Antarctica, although research stations are sparsely populated on that very southernmost continent.)
