Having been an avid drinker, and a diabetic for ten years plus, I find that I can drink as much red wine as I like, without raising my blood sugar level. However, if I drink a substantial amount of red wine and eat along with it, my level does get rather high (200+). But again, just drinking red wine with food causes no discernible rise in sugar levels...and believe me, I have monitored the foregoing thoroughly.

By the way, I am 67 years old.

Persons with Diabetes should not drink any liquor or alcohol because the ethanol is easily converted to sugar by the liver. This additional sugar can then wreak the person's control of their blood sugar.
