Buddha did not want to become "Holy" he wanted to become enlightened
The Buddha wants all beings, not just monks, to become enlightened and happy. People become monks to dedicate their life solely to this task. Lay people, like me, get married, raise children and work while trying to achieve the same end goal.
Buddha taught the path leading to the end of suffering.
The sacred book of Buddhism is a very large book called the Tipitaka. The Tipitaka is written in Pali, an ancient Indian language that the Buddha spoke.
He said that when he grows up he will have 2 paths. 1 path will lead him to become a buddha or a brahmin and the other will make him become the ruler of the world.
First off, the laughing Buddha is not The Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. He is a Chinese monk called HoTei. He is a representation of a Buddha of abundance. The historical Hotei died many centuries ago but many Chan Buddhists revere him. So as far as where to place him, put him someplace where you would want a holy person to be, therefore not in a bathroom, or bedroom. In an entrance way (foyer) or living room would be best, or looking over a nice garden.
Roman Catholic AnswerYes, if you have made your first Holy Communion and want to be an altar boy, you speak to the priest and ask him. He will talk to you and arrange for you to be trained.
The Buddha possessed infinitely large miraculous powers but these were relevant only to him, not to any others. He never used his miraculous powers for useless or vein causes but he used them for certain causes such as for the benefit of creatures. He never demonstrated miracles because he did not want people revering him not because of his teachings but because of the miraculous powers he possessed. It is true that the Buddha used his miraculous powers for certain purposes which would be beneficial to creatures but he had never demonstrated miracles. One of the examples in which the Buddha showed his miraculous powers to the people was that when he attained the Buddha-hood in order to confirm that he had become the Buddha to those who did not know the truth. The Buddhism is not based on the powers of the Buddha but on the precious teachings of the Buddha.
