The Vietnam War had more press coverage than any previous war and the public was getting updates in real time rather than delayed time as in previous wars. As a result there was constant political bantering about how the war should be prosecuted and the military was more or less fighting with one hand tied behind it's back. If the US had applied constant pressure on the North the outcome would probably have been much different. Then again, maybe the chinese and Russians would have become more involved and the war may have escalated. Like all wars, after the fact, people will debate for years about whether we should ever have been there in the first place.
