What made the cold war a war?

Well it was mainly that the USA had dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. But since the USSR hadn't been told about the dropping of the atomic bomb before hand this then increased the suspicion and tension between the USA and the USSR. This could have then potentially led to a fall-out between them and then possibly a war.

Hope this helps. :)
