Prior to the US presence in Vietnam their was a major battle between Vietnamese forces and the French which culminated at Dien Bien Phu where the French were beaten, this led to the Geneva Accords which split Vietnam in two. Two of the most famous battles during the US presence include the confrontation at Ia Drang, seen as the first real pitch battle between US and NVA forces and the Tet Offensive which is said to be a major turning point in the war becoming 'unwinnable' for the US.
