1. Developing information systems using the technique are very time-consuming(typically, two to five years) and also very costly. Because of this long development time, most organisations experience a backlog of project developments of up to three years. 2. The information system developed fails to meet the end-users' needs. One of the main reasons for this is that end-users are unable to adequately specify their information needs (either they do know exactly or are unable to communicate it clearly to the system developers). 3. The process of development is very inflexible and discourages any changes to the system being developed, mainly because all changes are prohibited after the system specifications are drawn up. However, if users were able to change the requirements during the development of the system , the projects would take a lot longer to complete resulting in a huge increase in the cost of developing the system.
