the leaf is composed of the mesophyll cells which contain chloroplast which in turn trap the sunlight and turn it to chemical energy . later on sugars are made from it through complex process. leaf is adapted to make a lot of food .

thus the large surface area and thin leaf makes it able to absorb maximium sunlight and fast diffusion of carbon-di-oxide to make the max. of photosynthesis, process where carbon-di-oxide and water molecules are broken apart in ions..... and so on... :D
