It erupts so much because it is in a hot spot
yes
Mauna Loa is on the Pacific Plate. It is not near any other plates.
explosively with abundant pyroclastic material
Mauna Loa is the world's largest active volcano. It's last eruption was in 1984. There is a 100% chance that it will erupt again within the next five years.
March 25- April 15 1984.
Maun Lao has erupted about 33 times
Yes it will in about a year or so. Scientists are still trying to find out the exact date for when it will erupt (last answer.) Scientists do not know what will happen between Mauna Loa and Kilauea. After an earthquake in 1984, eruptive activity stopped at Mauna Loa completely. Many think that the magma chamber changed during the quake and the energy was sent to Kilauea. Of course, Mauna Loa will erupt again, that is for sure. I doubt it will cease activity so close to it's extremely active neighbor. Tremors are found daily at Mauna Loa. Oh, and one more thing; Mount Mauna Loa is not it's proper title; Mauna means Mountain in Hawaiian :-)
Yes, Mauna Loa is considered sacred in Hawaiian culture and is associated with the volcano goddess Pele. According to legends, Mauna Loa is where Pele makes her home and where her fiery spirit resides. There are stories of Pele's battles with her sister, the water goddess Namaka, which are said to have shaped the landscape of Mauna Loa.
