I have a 2003 Monte Carlo SS and the only time it turned off on me was when my radiator had broken and the car was over heating. Its turns off so it wont explode.

these are called a temperature actuator there is one for the left side and right side,,,,u can actually take these off and turn the knob by hand that the actuator turns an u can find out like that ,,,

Several things...been dealing with this myself on a 99 MC. Check your ECU/ECM or Mass Air Flow Sensor or Idle Air Control. Remember electrical and gas go hand in hand on these babies. Possible fuel injectors. Good luck!!!
Get a long break over and the right socket put on the harmonic balancer nut on your engine on the frontof your engine ,the big pulley on the bottom and turn it if it turns its not locked up if it doesnt remove all spark plugs and try again if that doesnt work sorry ....try pullapart

On the end of the crankshaft is a set of electrical windings that turns as the crankshaft turns ( known as the rotor ) . There are staionary windings mounted in the engine casing that do not turn ( known as the stator ) . this makes up your alternator and this charges the battery as the engine is running .
