Basically you "inherit" certain traits from your parents, and it is likely that one will display certain actions that are very similar to that of their parents. If one's parents were predisposed to things such as addiction problems, learning disabilities, etc......then it is more likely that the individual will display or inherit these characteristics, and hence, may behave in ways like their parents and ancestors. A saying that depicts this is, "The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree".
