Galaxies are just collections of many stars surrounding a common gravity center, often a black hole. They usually have a 'halo' around them and the can, and do, collide. This sometimes results in a larger galaxy. The is no physical separator.

The Milky Way galaxy and the Andromeda galaxy are approximately 2.5 million light-years apart. This makes Andromeda the closest spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way. Both galaxies are part of the Local Group of galaxies.
As of now, there is no evidence to suggest that people live in the Andromeda galaxy. The vast distance between our galaxy and Andromeda makes it currently impossible for humans to live there. However, there could potentially be extraterrestrial life forms in other parts of the galaxy.
