Jazz has a high level of improvisation not found in other styles of music.
Music feeds dance. It tells our bodies what to do. The lyrics or mood of the song can tell us what emotion to portray or feel. The beat surges rhythm through our bodies. And vice versa, the dancer tells the story the music is missing and gives life and movement to each rhythm. It's a beautiful relationship and one could not easily go without the other.

There are many different instruments that can be used in a jazz band. The most common include saxophones, trumpets and horns, and trombones. Some jazz bands use other instruments such as flutes, drums, and vibraphones as well. Ella Fitzgerald was popular during the Swing and Bebop eras. She was proficient in both. She could use her voice as an instrument like a saxophone or trumpet. She was very good at "scatting" also, which is singing using non-sense syllables.
Both eras follow directly after the World Wars. Both birthed new ages in music, during the 1920's jazz became popular, and in the 1950's rock became popular. Women began to join the workforce in both of these eras, spurning cultural revolutions.
