The alveoli and the breathing route: nose + mouth to--> trachea

to--> bronchus

to--> bronchi (not the same as bronchus, I don't know why)

to--> bronchioli

-->alveoli

-->capillary

and then return to deflate

the lungs are specialised to do their job by all the different parts within them

parts such as:

  • the alveoli :- the air sacks inside the lung, complete gas exchange

the lungs are good at it's job because when you inhale the lungs expand like when you blow a balloon it expands and when you exhale your diaphram relaxes and therefor so do the lungs causing the lungs to deflate, it is basically made for the job.

- Large surface area: the alveoli inside the lungs are all spherical, creating a large surface area over which to diffuse oxygen.

- The walls of the alveoli are only one cell thick, enabling fast diffusion of oxygen into the blood.

- A dense network of capillaries (blood vessels) around the alveoli collect the oxygen.

- Lungs are moist so that oxygen can diffuse into the capillaries.
