The flag of Australia is basically a Blue Ensign: a blue field with the Union Flag in the upper left quarter, and a large white seven-pointed star known as the Commonwealth Star in the lower left quarter.
The right half contains a representation of the Southern Cross constellation, made up of five white stars - one small five-pointed star and four, larger, seven-pointed stars.
The Union Flag represents Australia's links to Britain and the big star Australia's links to the Commonwealth. The Southern Cross indicates that this is the constellation under which Australia is to be found.
The British flag
The Australian flag has the union flag in the top left because Australia used to be part of the British empire. There are actually many flags with the union flag in the top left. Any place that was part of the British empire when it developed its flag will have the union flag in the top left.
Don't know, but I think you'll find they are Australian, not Austrailan
The flag was created by the Utah state chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The state seal was designed by Harry Edwards and makes up the entirety of the flag.
