What materials were used to make the Airbus A380?

http://www.aerospace-technology.com/projects/a380/ In order to minimise the unladen weight, the Airbus 380 structures incorporate a range of new materials as used on the A318 and A340 families of aircraft. Carbon fibre reinforced plastic is used for the central box of the wings, the horizontal stabilisers (which are the same size as the Airbus A310 wing), the fin, the rear fuselage section and for ceiling beams. A new material, Glare, that is highly resistant to fatigue is used in the construction of the panels for the upper fuselage. The aluminum and fibreglass layers of Glare do not allow propagation of cracks, it is much lighter than conventional materials and represents a weight saving of about 500kg in the construction. Impact resistant thermoplastics are used on the wing leading edge. The aircraft has 16 wing spoilers supplied by Patria of Finland.

Does Airbus make helicopters?

Sort of. Airbus is a division of EADS--European Aeronautics, Defense and Space. It's a big consortium of European aircraft manufacturers. Another of their divisions is Eurocopter, which makes nothing but helicopters. The Airbus division itself doesn't make them, but the company that controls Airbus does. Which is why I said they sort of do.

Why are airplanes made of steel?

Most are made of aluminum nowadays, and some of the newest one, for example the airbus, are made of an aluminum fibreglass composite to make them lighter, while still being able to survive bird impacts. weight was an important factor for the airbus, because if it were to be made of steel, the huge wings would be so heavy that they wouldn't be horisontal.

What is airbus?

Airbus is an airplane manufacturer and designer based in Toulouse, France. They manufacture many airplanes, and are famous for their family of jet airliners. They currently make the world's largest commercial jetliner, the Airbus A380.
