Most are made of aluminum nowadays, and some of the newest one, for example the Airbus, are made of an aluminum fibreglass composite to make them lighter, while still being able to survive bird impacts. weight was an important factor for the airbus, because if it were to be made of steel, the huge wings would be so heavy that they wouldn't be horisontal.

What is airplanes made of?

Airplanes are made of a variety of materials. The earliest ones were made of pine wood and canvas. Then steel braces and nylon. Airplanes now can be made out of anything from wood and canvas, to magnesium alloys and aluminum. Most private planes are made out of canvas-nylons and steel frames. Commercial jets can be made out of aluminum and new models are starting to use light weight magnesium frames to cut down on weight and improve fuel efficiency. The most common material used now is aluminum and steel alloys.

Why steel is so important?

Without steel there would be no cars, motorcycles, boats, or airplanes.

What material is airplane made up of?

Airplanes are made up of Aluminium, Steel and alloys of Titanium. Bigger airplanes such as A380 are made of other kind of materials. A380 is made up of Carbon Fibre and some other alloy whose recipe is kept secret which is Ultralight and very strong.

How much turbulence can airplanes handle?

Airplanes can handle more turbulence than you can ever imagin. They can handle up to more than 2,000 times of turbulence before their wings can snap off into pieces. Airplanes are over-built with extremely thick and strong illuminum skin and titanium skin. They are also made out of very thick and strong steel making it almost impossible for turbulence to break airplanes into pieces so you are very safe to fly on-board airplanes! Airplanes are over-built with more than 5 layers of thick and strong illuminum skin, titanium skin and steel!

What was the year airplanes were made?

Airplanes are made almost every year since 1900.

Why are airplanes made out of metal?

Airplanes haven't always beeing made out of metal, in fact the earliest airplanes were amde out of pine wood and canvas. Newer, private aircraft can be made out of steel and a nylon-canvas mixture. The reson airplans are mde from metal is because it is more resistant to fracture than wood. It is harder to break will in flight and has a longer life than wood. Metal is also easier to process into airplane components than wood. A new type of material made out of nylon fussed with carbon, making a carbon fiber body, is stonger and lighter than steel. This will soon allow airplanes to fly higher, faster, and farther than ever before.
