There are three forces that cause what is commonly called soil erosion: Air {wind), water, and chemical leaching. Air moves sand and to a lesser degree silt. Anything that modifies the wind direction and force will decrease wind erosion. Some examples are grass, "breaking up surface" with a cultivar to add turbulence so that the wind will not move the soil as well, or planting crops, trees or wind breaks. Water erosion also can be affected by adding dams, plants (roots,) or terracing. Leaching is where the chemical elements of soil dissolve in the water and are carried by gravity to a lower strata, then when water evaporates; remains in the new location. This process is called weathering. The best way to change this is to make small water troughs (ponds or lakes) that run laterally across the strata to catch the water (called berms.) These could be anchored by fruit trees to reclaim the elements in the food cycle.

it is protected by planting crops and grass......so its mostly just planting plants will help because plant roots grab hold of the soil and the things under it so when ersion comes close to happening the roots grip and nothing get shaken around!

hopefully ive helped...im srry if i didnt only in fifth !

Why did the dust bowl lead to the adoption of methods of sving soil?

How contour plowing prevent soil erosion?

It slows the water from rain as it comes down the terraced area, thus preventing erosion. Terracing helps to prevent erosion because it slows rain water as it runs down the terraced area.

What effective way to fight desertification?

Reforestation addresses the root causes of desertification. Techniques focus on three aspects: provisioning of water, fixation of the soil, and hyper-fertilizing the soil. Contour trenches are 150m long, 1m deep trenches in the soil, parallel to the height lines of the landscape to prevent erosion caused by the flow of water. Stone walls around the trenches prevent them from filling in. Sand fences can also be used to control drifting of soil and sand erosion. Fixating the soil is accomplished by the use of shelter belts, woodlots and windbreaks. Zaï or tillage are used to enable crops to grow in consolidated soils (like clay). Enriching the soil and restoration of its fertility is often done by plants. Of these, the Leguminous plants, which extract nitrogen from the air and fix it in the soil, and food crops/trees such as grains, barley, beans and dates are the most important.

Erosion is the invasion of nonnative weeds on natural soil true or false?

False, erosion is the gradual wearing down, wearing away of something. In nature it refers to such phenomena as the destructive effect of rivers on their banks, tides on shores, wind and weather on mountains The word is used in metaphor and analogy too. Some members of the Augusta Golf Club regard the admission of women as an erosion of the Club's charter principles

What is the importance of contour plowing?

to conserve the soil and protect it from erosion and weathering. The science behind contour farming is that the topsoil will not be as susceptible to erosion from wind and water when plowed in contours that follow the land elevations. The Dust Bowl in the 1930's was made worse by the straight line plowing methods used at the time.
