What are all the methods of death penalties?

In the USA the method by some States is lethal injection and In other States like Texas the method is Hanging....Previously in the US there has been the gas chamber,the electric chair,and in the military a firing squad which is still legal even today but has not been used for several decades...

Added: At least one or two states (Utah is one) STILL give the condemned an option of death by firing squad if they so choose.

Capital punishment or Death Penalty is a punishment which is awarded through a legal procedure as a punishment for a crime. There are different methods used for carrying out Capital Punishment. They include beheading, electric chair, gas chamber, hanging, lethal injection and Firing squad.

Historically there have been many ways of killing an individual. In ancient Rome, crucifiction was common. Hanging has been used for thousands of years. Beheading is another common method. Electrocution is relatively new. While the use of injections is fairly recent, poisons have been used since the Greeks. Burning at the stake, exposure to the elements and stoning are other methods.

This greatly vary depending on the crime committed and the state/country.

It also depends on punishment being done during war or peace.

Military laws are different to civil laws.

Methods used during war include:

• Hanging.
• Neck-shot using a small gun.
• "Display shooting", being tied to a pole or chained to a wall, then being shot by several men with rifle from a distance. The shooting is often performed towards stomach, inducing a somewhat painful and agonizing slow death. This is often (but not always) followed by a shot through the heart from distance or a neck shot by a small gun.
• Various countries like Japan, China, Korea (not an extensive list) may even allow the convicted to kill him/her-self. This often a "traditional" killing to preserve the honour of the "victims" family.
• Decapitation of head is also a method "widely" used.
• Burial alive.

Methods used when not in war does not exclude the above mentioned methods but may include others:

• Poisonous lethal injection (Various barbiturates that induce sleep and paralysis of breathing and heart.)
• Poisonous lethal gas (Cyanide or possibly other quick acting aerosols.)
• Electricity.
• Stoning.
• Death by old age (Imprisonment until dead).

Methods used in old age includes (But not limited by these).

• Splitting by horses. (One leg tied to one horse, the other leg tied to another horse. Point the horses in different direction and whip them.)
• Head Stomping by elephant.
• Eaten alive by ants.(Africa, painfull death, possibly still in use.)
• Drowning/Keel-Hauling (Not always capital punishment but often capital.)
• Burial with only head above ground. (Africa, slow death, possibly still in use.)

As mankind is a most ingenuitive species we develop and utilize many methods for hurting and killing some people. This above list is a somewhat short list limited by my imagination and knowledge.
