There is no such thing as "The train" - there are scenic trains, local trains, express trains and so on. =The trip can take anywhere from 7 to 12 hours, depending on which you get.
The express trains take about 5 1/2 hours to go between Montreal and Toronto. The local trains can take almost 7 hours.
Yes, but it may be expensive - there are 4 express trains an hour, plus 1 local one.
One purpose of a transportation system is to bring passengers to their destination with minimal delay. Those travelling the furthest on a rail line have to spend the most time travelling. To minimize this inconvenience, express trains skip many stations along a route. At an express stop close to a passengers destination, the traveler disembarks, waits for the next local (non-express) train, and completes his journey. Express trains are not only a great convenience to many passengers. It is more efficient. They consume less energy, saving money. Making less stops means reducing the number of time a train must brake to stop, wait for people to embark and disembark, and start up again to travelling speed from a stopped position.
At a local or national Destination

The Pony Express is a group of postmen famous for their quick deliveries on horseback.Otherwise, mail was sent in horse-drawn carts, carried in bags by local postmen, sent via trains and, finally, shipped in postal trucks and airplanes as transportation technology has progressed.
The three letter word is OUR :)
It varies so it is difficult to say there is as average. On local trains some stations are only 4 to 6 blocks away from each other, others are 9 to 11 blocks away away from each other. In the southern part of Queens on the A line the distance between the Howard Beach station and the Broad Channel station is close to a mile. On express trains the distance can be a mile or more between stations (the local trains take care of the stations inbetween). Example: on the Lexington Av line there is an express station at 125th St, 86th St and 59th St. Each is more than 20 blocks (1 mile) between. However, the next express station is 42nd St-Grand Central which is only 17 blocks from the 59th St express station (but only 9 blocks from the 51st St local station).
Take the Uptown A or C trains from Jay Street-Metrotech (at the corner of Jay Street and Willoughby Street) to 34th Street-Penn Station. The A is express, the C is local.
