Well, if there were no insects there would be no bees, or butterflies to get nectar from flowers. plants and flowers need bees to survive. And if the plants died, that means our meat, like cows, couldn't eat any plants so they will starve to death. and if our meat died, we, ie humans will stave to death and die. so, in a way, we need bugs to help keep the planet alive but actually if ants went extinct for no reason at all i think the world would be perfectly fine as it is now because ants don't very to much for the ecological level or scientific world either cause all they basically do for the ecological is eat sleep poop and steal crumbs ten times their weight.

Contrary to popular belief insect are not necessary for pollination, the wind spreads pollen just fine. In fact where I live the ground, cars, etc are all covered with pollen almost everyday in summer time, and since cows eat grass, say hypothetically all the other animals died (they wouldn't some of them eat plants too) the cattle, including cows would still be alive. If one type of insect is suddenly removed from the ecosystem of a lawn, other insects may not have the ability to survive. The ecosystem is very delicate, and many species could starve.
