Without an organized legal system, there would be utter chaos, lynchings, gun duels in the streets, and various forms of vigilante action. The powerful would enslave the weak. Your only protection would be your own weapons, your ability to flee, or your skill to form or join a powerful gang for self protection. This would be a sad state of affairs, but the United States may be heading in this direction.
