"Search and destroy". Seek out the enemy and destroy him. This method created a system involving "body counts", "free fire zones", and "thunder runs." "Thunder runs" consisted of usually two M-48 Patton tanks moving down the road, one tank with his 90MM gun covering the left and the tank on the right moving with his cannon pointed to his right, as both tanks moved out side by side or staggered, all cannons (and machinguns) fired as they kept moving, until reaching their assigned area of operations (or designated stopping area). Thunder runs were conducted in mostly "Free fire zone" sectors.
