Argentina's original population was the American Natives of many nations (Wichi, Mapuche, Tehuelche, Selk'nam). When the Spaniards conquered the area in the XVIth century, they exploited the natives making them work in mines or as serfs.
This plus the new diseases brought by the Europeans killed the American natives by the millions.
Argentina was scantily populated by a mixture of natives and Spaniards until the mid XIXth century (they called themselves "Criollos" - Creoles). There were also black African slaves imported to work as domestic slaves. This stopped however in two stages between 1813 and 1853 when slavery was abolished. Most of these slaves fought in the independence wars and perished. Disease also took its toll. It is very rare to find an Afro-Argentine person.
After 1850, European Immigration was promoted and several million Europeans (mainly Spanish and Italian) migrated to Argentina.
This influx mixed with the local Criollo element and created what is now the average Argentine: roughly 90% of the population is of Italian originor of Spanish origin. The remaining 10% is other Europeans (French, German, Polish, English, Portuguese, etc.) as well as the surviving native groups (7.9% of total population).

There are also Koreans, Japanese and Chinese - Taiwanese who arrived during the XXth century.

Argentina has several religious minority groups (Muslims, Jews and Protestant groups) because the main religion is Roman Catholic.

Discrimination based on any cause (race, beliefs, etc.) is a crime in Argentina.
