You can't tell when the avatar is born, but you can tell if the kid is the avatar. like in The Firelord and the Avatar Aang was born right after Roku died, but it might b different for other avatars

The final episode, Sozin's comet, was in four parts and I won't tell you how it ended so as not to ruin it. There are three seasons of Avatar, or books, each dealing with Ang learning a different kind of bending - first water, then earth and then fire.
