Because when a crops gets water it sucks it up and that's done but if there is to much it cant suck it all up so it starts to bend and die its like if us humans are swimming and there is two much water we drown and that's kind of what happens to the crops
Well depending on the the scale of the quake probably not much. Unless it was bad enough an earthquake to turn up the soil they there's little to worry about. It would proabbly help seeds to be honest.

This is not an advantage...crops should be rotated or you will deplete the nutrients in the soil.
