Mount Jefferson was named in honor of President Thomas Jefferson by Lewis and Clark and it's the only High Cascade mountain they named. They first saw the peak from the mouth of the Willamette River in March, 1806. Mount Jefferson is the second highest peak in Oregon and is a likely extinct stratovolcano that last erupted about 40,000 to 50,000 years ago. It's 10,495 feet tall (3,199 meters) and can be found at 44.692 N latitude and 121.80 W longitude.
