Not too many people consider Russia to be an enemy although many would consider Russia to at least be a competitor. The Chechnya separatists are enemies of Russia.
All regions that wanted to become sovereign nations got the chance to do so in the 1990's, when the Soviet Union fell apart. The regions that stayed in and that today form Russia are generally speaking happy to be part of it. The only exception is Chechnya, which after two bloody wars with Russia was reunited with Russia by a plebiscite that probably was rigged.
This requires a fairly long explanation. But, here are the highlights: After Boris Yeltsin allowed the collapse of the Soviet Union the Soviet Republics declared their independence. But, Chechnya was not considered a Soviet Republic. Rather it was a part of the Russian Federation of republics. But, they hated Russia and declared their independence too. Yeltsin feared the secession of Chechnya would prompt a me-too of independence movements within the vast Russian Federation. In addition he hoped to recover Chechnya's valuable oil resources.

Since Russia, is a very big country many Russians have a lot of ethnicity. Remember the bigger the country, the more ethnicities. Most Russian people are Slavic, those are the people living in European Russia. The place where the Nazis invaded. Eastern Russia (Asian Russia) and Chechnya is where it's all at. There are Mongols, most of them are the Russian Buddhists. They are known as "Buryats". There are also the Yakuts. In far-eastern Russia, those are Korean-Russians and Japanese-Russians. Those are people of Japanese and Korean descent, they don't look like typical "Russians". Chechens, are a Turkic group, not Slavic. If you notice, Chechens have Arab names but they use them Russian style. So it's easy to distinguish. For example, a person from an Arab country would have a name like Ahmed bin-Omar. But a person from Chechnya would have a name like Akhmad Omarov or Akhmed Omarovich.
The Ukraine was called the breadbasket of the Russian Empire, and of the Soviet Union. Now that it is independent, Ukraine would be called the breadbasket of the region surrounding Russia.
