The old Mickey Mouse Club used this technique to run some Disney films in serial fashion- they would show the Mickey Mouse club in a movie house- and then roll Em. They serialized a number of Disney dramas in this fashion. Closer to what you might be thinking there is a scene in the film E.T. where Elliott is watching This Island Earth and UFO sequences thereof, on a small Tv set.
