Wow you go back in time! this was an early techno-fiction picture called Christopher Strong. ( sounds like a Tarzan type, but isn:t) the lead character is the Aviatrix Lady Cynthia Darrington ( or Darlington) between missions, to make a long story short, she finds out she is pregnant. the crash you describe, yes it happens on screen and camera angles and shots clearly imply a suicidal intent. at a very high altitude- the flight was supposed to be a stratosphere record-breaker. She soberly disconnects her life support system and lets gravity take its course. This was a very controversial film in the depths of the depression, suggesting pregnancy of the wrong type motivating a suicidal ( accident) I don"t think the film has ever been shown on TV. the powers that be wanted to make an alternate (cleaned up) version where she comes out of the dive or the whole thing turns out to be a nightmare but the suicidal crash angle made the scene- and screen. a very sad and depressing film starring Katharine Hepburn as the woman flyer, and Colin Clive as Sir Christopher Strong, the title character.
