Before he got to earth, he escaped from the lab where he was going to be jettsoned to a remote asteroid. After crawling through the vents, he managed to get to the hangar and steal a police cruiser, the red one. After evading laser fire, he activated the hyper drive, which made him travel half a galaxy until he got to ours.

The term asteroid was used for the TV movie appropriately called "Asteroid" (1997).Both the Bruce Willis movie "Armageddon" (1998) and the earlier, critically-panned "Meteor" (1970) used the term meteor(technically meteoroid) but both objects were asteroid-sized.The Tea Leoni movie "Deep Impact" (1998), and the TV movie "A Fire in The Sky" (Richard Crenna, 1978) had comets hitting the Earth.

We don't currently have equipment ready to deal with this problem, but the idea would be to divert the asteroid by either speeding it up or slowing it down. Blowing it up like in the movie "Armageddon" would be an extremely bad idea, because it would just create a bunch of small objects which would still collide with earth, thus distributing the impact rather than avoiding it.
Realistically according to science:Armageddon is the term used to describe the end of life on Earth. Another term used to describe it is apocalypse. An armageddon is an event which will either destroy Earth or wipe out all life. For example, an asteroid hitting Earth or a virus wiping out mankind. In the movie starring Bruce Willis:An asteroid is heading towards Earth. It is up to Bruce and his team of misfit astronauts to save the world by blowing up the asteroid before it hits Earth.Spoiler alert: Bruce dies.Unrealistically (no evidence to support it) according to New Testament:In New Testament, the Armageddon is described as a battle between good and evil. Angels vs demons. There's no evidence that either exist (if it's true because it's written in a book, then by that logic Harry Potter is true too). Such an event already exists in real life between humans - Democracy versus terrorism.

It depends on the movie. Forget about it and keep hitting the books.
Yes, I believe around 1997-98 NASA sent Bruce Willis to an asteroid that was headed for earth to blow it up. It was a succes and they even made a movie about it!
