The pectoralis major, teres major, lastissimus dorsi, and the carica adduct and medially, or internally, rotate the humerus.
The latissimus dorsi, and the trees major, which is known as the " little lat", both adduct, extend, and internally(medially) rotate the shoulder. The long head of the triceps also extend and addicts the shoulder, while also being an elbow extensor
There are several muscles working when pitching. Starts of with the abductor muscles when striding. leg muscles such as the calf, quads and hamstring work when push of happens. then shoulder girdle, lats and biceps work as arms rotate. Core muscles work for rotation
The rotator cuff is a collection of muscles that act on the glenohumeral joint (shoulder joint) which are used to rotate the arm. There are four muscles in the rotator cuff called Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor and Subscapularis.
deltoids are the back shoulder muscles and trapezoids are the muscles around the shoulder/neck/back area
The shoulder press works the upper body muscles such as the deltoids and the triceps. The shoulder press also involves the core muscles.
A muscle doesn't rotate the shoulder. The ligaments that connect your shoulder blade to your arm, to your rib cage all work in a ball and socket type of way allowing you to rotate your arm 360o.

Well it depends between what swimmer and what rugby player as there are some swimmers with very big shoulder muscles and there are some with small shoulder muscles but viseversa there are some weak shoulder muscled rugby players and strong shoulder muscled rugby players..
