lose an electron

For an atom to become positively charged, it must lose electrons.

However, oxygen is a non-metal and is an anion. Since it only needs one electron to complete its outer shell of valence electrons, it tends to gain electrons rather than lose them and forms covalent bonds (where electrons are shared).

How is a positive charge usually given to a neutral object?

Friction will give a positive charge to a neutral object by conduction. This is done by rubbing two different materials together.

What part of the atom causes the nucleus to have a positive charge?

The protons give the nucleus a positive charge.

What particles in an atom give its charge?

Protons, they have a positive charge.

What charge does the proton give the nucleus?

POSITIVE.

What charge does a proton give off?

The proton has one unit of positive charge (+1). There is no reason for it to give off its charge, and it doesn't do that. It just sits there, with its charge intact, being a proton.

What particles give nucleus its positive charge?

protons

How does an object get a positive or a negative charge?

An object gives up one or more protons to get a positively charged objects and absorbs one or more electrons to get a negatively charged objects. This happens when two objects are rubbed together (ex. when you rub your feet on the carpet to give some one a shock;rubbing balloon on one's hair)

Why is the electrical charge of an atom positive?

if the atom lost an electron then it will be positiveif it gains an electron then it will be negativeif it has the same # of protons and nutrons it is nutral

Is an atom that loses electrons have a negative charge?

No. Electrons have a negative charge and so removing one from the atom will give it a positive charge.

Give the charge of the most probable ion from the element Be?

POSITIVE

Does an atoms nucleus have a positive or negative charge?

it cant have any charge at all. atoms have an equal amount of protons and neutron therefore the give off no charge. if they did give off a charge they would no longer be atoms they would be ions
