How to Inspect Gantry Cranes in Regular Service?

Frequent maintenance of gantry cranes is therefore crucial not just to maintain its efficiency but also, and obviously for safety precautions. If you’re a gantry operator or a designated gantry crane maintenance officer, here are a few steps in inspecting gantry cranes in regular service. These steps are to be done frequently according to an indicated regular schedule. 1. When operating the gantry, check for irregularities in all motions. Any obstruction and delays in the movement needs to be inspected. Check for unusual noises, as wells as vibrations, and the overall functioning of the gantry. 2. Make sure that all the hooks and throat latches that are installed are free of any sign of damage and deformities. Unchecked compromised connections can lead to serious accidents caused by worn hooks and throat latches. 3. Make sure that all brakes operate smoothly and precisely without delays and hesitations. 4. Hoisting ropes and chains are fundamental parts of a gantry; make sure they are in good working condition. Check for breakage as well as loosened and overstretched sections. Visual inspection of the ropes and chains must be thorough and complete. Make sure the hoist chain is fed into and from the sprocket without hitches. Check the chains irregularities and weak spots, the links must be in place and intact, keep them clear of stray objects and/or any type of debris. Make sure two full wraps of wire rope (at the least) are left on the drum at the lower limit. 8. For cranes that are cab-operated, it is important to ensure that it has a charged 10BC fire extinguisher or larger. Check if the extinguisher inspection tag is updated. 9. All other necessary inspections for cranes with other specifications must be fulfilled.
