After the Assyrians conquered ancient Israel in the First Temple era and exiled the Ten Israelite tribes, the Israelites who remained in the land were (and are) mostly from the Israelite tribe of Judah, and the land was therefore called Judea in the Second Temple era.
People thought his idea to build a transcontinental railroad across the US was crazy. So he earned the name 'Crazy Judah'.
The Jewish people are descendants of Abraham through his son Isaac and grandson Jacob (Jacob was given the name Israel by God, in Genesis ch.35). The name "Jews" comes from Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, since the bulk of the other tribes (other descendants of Jacob) were exiled by the Assyrians and did not return. The descendants of Judah were also exiled (by the Babylonians) but returned to build the Second Temple not long afterwards, and their descendants are extant to this day.
The Israelite Tribes that were scattered by the Assyrians in 722 B.C.E. are typically called the TEN LOST TRIBES, since they lost their religion and historical identity after the Assyrian conquest and deportation.
No kingdom was renamed Judea. When the United Kingdom of Israel divided in two, the Northern Kingdom retained the name Israel while the Southern Kingdom took on the name Judah since it primarily controlled the lands assigned to the tribe of Judah. Judea was the Roman term for the area once controlled by the Southern Kingdom of Judah.
AnswerAccording to the Bible, the Israelites were given manna and quail.
Abraham, his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob were Hebrews. Jacob took or was given the name Israel. His descendants called themselves the Children of Israel, or Israelites. They were still Hebrews. The Judaites were one of the Israelite tribes. Later, the kingdom of Judah was the last surviving Israelite kingdom, and the survivors of that kingdom, all of them Israelites and Hebrews, came to be known as Jews.
Judah is the ancient name of the southern Hebrew kingdom. The Romans gave the name Judaea to Judah. Judaea is usually written simply as Judea today.
The Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were Hebrews. Jacob took or was given the name Israel, and his descendants were known as the Children of Israel or Israelites (they were still Hebrews, of course). One of the tribes of the Israelites, descended from Judah, was known as the Judaites. The Judaite kingdom was the last surviving Israelite kingdom, and the survivors of the destruction of that kingdom came to be known as Jews, who still call themselves Israelites and Children of Israel, and who are still Hebrews.
They start to be called Israelites after Jacob wrestled with an angel (Genesis ch.32). God gave Jacob the additional name of Israel (ibid. ch.35), which was a title of honor.
