The king considered it treason, but there were those in England who supported it. They wore a blue ribbon or clothing to signify support.
The patriots were for independence. Those who were loyal to the king were called loyalists.

The name of the people in the English colonies on the northern American mainland is colonist. Those that supported the revolution were also called rebels and those that supported the King were called loyalists.

A torie, also known as a loyalist, is given to a person who stayed loyal to the king of England (George III). The reason being is that torries back in England supported the kings cause and wanted to put down the colonies, while whigs did not support the king and Lord North and supported the Revolution.

King George the 3rd was a British king. People known as "Loyalists" were loyal to the king. Others were called "Patriots" those were the people that hated the king (because of the stamp act, ask to find about the stamp act!).
