It would depend on the time. The first civilization to appear in Mexico were the Olmecs, who arose on the Gulf of Mexico lowlands between 1500 and 400 BC; then the Mayan Civilization became the dominant power in the Yucatan Peninsula and parts of Central America between 250 and 900 AD. Nowadays several Native American groups are located in the area, including the Yucatec Maya, Huastec and Otomi peoples.
