The word was "pneumonoultramicroscopic-silicovolcaniosis", created in 1935 to be the longest English word (45 letters). It partly succeeded. The Oxford English dictionary included it but labeled it "factitious" or not a valid word.

The dust-created lung disease was already described as simply "silicosis".
